AVB sacked by Tottenham

Tottenham have sacked head coach Andre Villas-Boas after less than 18 months in charge following Sunday's 5-0 home defeat by Liverpool. The Premier League defeat to the Reds appeared to have been the final straw for the White Hart Lane board, coming just three weeks after the 6-0 thumping by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. A Spurs statement said: "The club can announce that agreement has been reached with head coach, Andre Villas-Boas, for the termination of his services. "The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties." The club later revealed technical co-ordinator Tim Sherwood and Spurs U21 coaching team of Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand would take charge of the first team ahead of the Carling Cup quarter-final visit of West Ham on Wednesday night. Steffen Freund and Tony Parks stay on as part of the coaching staff but Villas-Boas's backroom team of Jose Mario Rocha, Luis Martins and Daniel Sousa have left. Early candidates which headed the Sky Bet betting to replace Villas-Boas were former England boss Fabio Capello, now in charge of Russia, Spurs' current director of football and Capello's assistant at the Football Association, Franco Baldini, former England supremo and Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle and Swansea manager Michael Laudrup. Another contender, Dutchman Guus Hiddink, was immediately ruled out of the running by his agent as he is taking over as Holland coach after the World Cup. Cees van Nieuwenhuizen said: "I would be surprised if (Hiddink) went to Spurs. I could hardly imagine that happening. "He has just signed a contract with Holland and he has also turned down offers from other countries recently to coach them at the World Cup so I wouldn't take any talk of Guus going to Tottenham seriously." Villas-Boas endured a shorter turbulent time at London rivals Chelsea, moving to Stamford Bridge from an extremely successful stint Porto in June 2011 before being sacked in March 2012 by Blues owner Roman Abramovich. He was soon lured back to the Premier League in July of that year and managed to guide Tottenham to their first win at Old Trafford since 1989, beating Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United 3-2 in September. Spurs went on to accumulate 72 league points in the Portuguese's only full season in charge, the largest haul not to qualify for the Champions League in Premier League history. The 36-year-old then revealed in the summer that he had turned down offers from Paris St Germain and Real Madrid to remain at Tottenham before star asset Gareth Bale was sold to the Spanish giants in a deal worth a reported world-record 100million euros. Tottenham used the Bale money to strengthen their squad with the acquisition of, among others, Spain forward Roberto Soldado, playmakers Christian Eriksen of Denmark and Argentina's Erik Lamela, and midfielder Paulinho of 2014 World Cup hosts Brazil. However, after an encouraging start to the new season, a 3-0 home defeat to a striker-less West Ham raised first questions over Tottenham's strengths before they continued to struggle to score league goals. Last week, a convincing 4-1 victory over Anzhi Makhachkala saw Spurs advance in the Europa League and appeared to ease concerns over their attacking potency but Sunday's north London humiliation precipitated the club's decision to finally part company with Villas-Boas.

Chieftaincy title: Village heads beat up Ogun monarch

BY DAUD OLATUNJI
ABEOKUTA —
Pandemonium broke out in Ayetoro, the political headquarters of Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, when at least 10 village heads allegedly beat the Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Azeez Adelakun and destroyed his traditional beads. The fracas which occurred, weekend, shortly before the embattled monarch installed a village head of Ago-Imala, Olayiwola Ajibola, prompted the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, to personally supervise his men who stormed the place in four Hilux vans to restore normalcy. The installation was billed to take place at Isale-Agboro multi-purpose hall before the crisis escalated. When our correspondent visited the place, there were eight bonfires in various places which were reportedly made by the youths in the area in protest against the assault on their monarch. It was gathered that, there had been bad blood between the monarch and the aggrieved village heads following the refusal of the monarch to merge two village heads in Saala village. An eyewitness told our correspondent that some village heads had demanded to hold a meeting with the monarch on the need to jettison the installation of the new village head, and when the monarch entered the palace, the aggrieved village heads refused to pay homage to him, saying they did not recognise him. Speaking on behalf of the monarch, Baale Ayobo-Ayetoro, Ezekiel Ogundele said: “ThoseBaaleshave vowed to dethrone theKabiyesiand they have been planning against him for long. They said until they dethrone him they will not rest. “They alleged that theKabiyesidisgraced them in Abeokuta and they would retaliate by removing him as theobaof the town. They said the two village heads in Saala should be merged, butKabiyesitold the government not to allow them merge the two offices. This did not go down well with the aggrievedBaaleswho vowed to deal with theKabiyesiby removing him as Oba. “This development led to the confusion to the extent that, these aggrieved village heads wrote theKabiyesito meet them at his palace, December 16. “But, Kabiyesi wanted to install Baale Ago-Imala and when they got to the palace they did not pay homage to him and when the monarch asked them why they failed to pay the homage, they said theKabiyesihad been removed as the Oba, “They vowed that they will not remove their caps and shoes as the culture demanded and they carried out the threat. They were about 10.” Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, said 19 Baales were involved, adding that one of theBaalesassaulted theobaby removing his traditional beads

Three years after marrying a 14 year old Egyptian girl named Marian, which was widely protested in Nigeria, former Zamfara state governor and serving senator of the federal republic of Nigeria, Sen. Ahmed Yerima, has reportedly divorced her to marry a new wife. According to reports, Sen.Yerima and four men, said to be members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly were in Egypt a few weeks ago for the wedding fathia of a new bride said to be 15 years old. Marian who is now 17 and a mother of one, is believed to be the daughter of the former governor's driver whenever he visits Egypt. The reason he divorced her is to enable him take a new wife as he's not allowed more than four wives. The Senator is alleged to have married and divorced a few women in the last few years but has never changed his first three wives, only the fourth ones. Sen. Ahmed Yerima this year was strongly against the deletion of the section of the 1999 constitution which pegged the official marriage age in Nigeria as 18 year, saying it was anti-Islam.
