Nigeria declares Tuesday, Wednesday next week as public holidays

Muslims worldwide are celebrating the Eid-el-Kabir on Tuesday.
The Federal Government has announced October 15 and 16, next week
Tuesday andWednesday, as public holidays. This is to enable Muslims
celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival which comes up on Tuesday, October
15.
The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, made the announcement on behalf
of the Federal Government in a statement in Abuja.
The statement, signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry,
Fatima Bamidele, urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the
peace and unity of the nation.
The statement quoted the minister as congratulating Muslims on the
occasion. It also urged Muslims and other Nigerians to support
President Goodluck Jonathan in his sustained efforts to raise the
country to its next level of development.
The minister wished Nigerians a rewarding and peaceful celebration.

Pre-school crack dealer?! 4-year-old boy found with pockets full of cocaine and cash in school

Forget juice boxes and crayons. A Philadelphia preschooler came to
class with crack cocaine and cash, authorities said.
The 4-year-old boy showed his shocking contraband to another student
on Tuesday morning, who told a teacher, Philadelphia schools spokesman
Fernando Gallard told the Daily News.
"The teacher approached the pre-K student and asked him to empty out
his pockets, basically," Gallard said.
Out came $173 cash and eight dime bags.
"It looked like crack cocaine and cocaine powder," Gallard said.
The teacher seized the drugs and money and took the boy to see the
principal of the Thomas Mifflin School, who called police.
School officials evacuated the building, and a police K-9 unit swept
the classrooms before students were allowed to return.
The boy was transported to a hospital to make sure he hadn't ingested
any of the drugs.
The boy was OK, but police and school officials still wonder how a
young child got a hold of street drugs and a roll of bills.
Police were questioning the boy's uncle on Tuesday,CBS Philadelphia reported.
Authorities say the boy is a victim, not a pint-sized pusher.
Chief Inspector Cynthia Dorsey said the child didn't realize the
danger the drugs.
"It is something to play with," Dorsey told the TV station. "He showed
it to classmates."
Elementary students in the past have brought drugs and even a handgun
to school, Gallard said, but he can't remember any as young as the
boy.
He commended the classmate for notifying the teacher and said the
school and other service providers would follow up.
"Whatever the situation is that he has access to these items, we're
going to be able to provide support," Gallard said.

Jonathan did not ask us to look for Boko Haram leader, Shekau, Dialogue Committee chairman says

The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North, Kabiru Turaki, has said the panel was not given the mandate to look for the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, but to identify its members and dialogue with them. Mr. Turaki also said the committee had almost completed its assignment and would soon submit its report to President Goodluck Jonathan. The 26-member committee was set up in April to engage the Boko Haram sect, as part of the Federal Government’s proposed amnesty deal for the radical Islamic group. Mr. Turaki, who is also the Minister of Special Duties, was speaking with journalists, on Tuesday, in Abuja, after briefing the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on the performance of the ministry since its creation six months ago. “I think I will also ask you, where is Shekau? Now, with all sense of responsibility, we have been directed by Mr. President to identify key members of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lil da’awati wal Jihad (Boko Haram) and then engage them in dialogue. Mr. President did not ask us to look for Shekau and engage him in dialogue,” he said. Mr. Jonathan had during his recent media chat, told Nigerians that he did not know whether Mr. Shekau was dead or not. He was responding to the claim by the Joint Task Force sometime in August that the Boko Haram leader may have been killed. Mr. Turaki added that it was important for Nigerians to understand that the committee could not immediately connect with the highest leadership. “Usually what happens is that after that we have been able to establish confidence, because it is necessary, they now deploy the lower rank of their membership to us, like a water testing mechanism. They would come to us we will discuss with them, when they go back without any molestation then at the next meeting they would deploy a higher set of members. “And this is how it has been going to the level where we now are, where we have started to engage key members of these insurgencies. But for us it does not have to be Shekau,” he explained. The minister admitted that in the course of the panel’s assignment, it came across some fake members of the sect, who came purposely to obtain money from government, insisting that the people it was currently talking to were genuine Boko Haram members. “Dialogue committee has laid solid foundation for sustainable peace to be achieved in Nigeria. Release of captives on the order of the president has also reduced the level of insurgency in Nigeria. The dialogue committee has achieved an advanced level of negotiation,” he insisted. On when the panel would submit its report, Mr. Turaki said, “We have almost concluded our assignment; 99 percent has been concluded. “In the next few days probably before the end of this week, we will finish the one percent. Then as soon as we do that, we will also inform Mr. President that we have finished and he will give us date and time to present the report.” Constituency projects The minister also disclosed that a total of N100 billion was budgeted each year for constituency projects, adding that this year alone the Ministry of Special Duties had identified over 2,399 of them.

Two friends win N8m by using N400 to play Bet9ja

Saheed Oniloyi and Olashile Ali had reasons to rejoice at the weekend
when they combined to win a total sum of N8m (Eight million naira)
with a N400 stake.
The close friends used their understanding of football bets to predict
the outcome of matches of some Europa league and some Italian football
league matches.
At the end of the Europa league matches on Thursday, their tickets
were confirmed and it revealed that they have emerged as the biggest
winners of the bet9ja game show.
In an interview after claiming his prize, Saheed Oniloyi claimed that

Superiority Of The First Ten Days Of Dhul-Hijjah (Starting Today)

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. May peace and
blessings be upon the Chief of the Messengers, Muhammad.
Indeed it is a great favour and blessing from Allah that He has made
for His righteous servants periods of time within which they can
increase in good deeds to attain great rewards and one of these
opportunistic periods is the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah (the final
month of the Islamic Calendar, in which the Hajj is performed).
Superiority of the First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah
The excellence of these ten days have been mentioned in the Qur'an and
the Sunnah.
1. Allah says in the Qur'an:
"By the dawn and by the ten nights … " [Al-Qur'an 89:1-2]
Ibn Kathir said that "the ten nights" referred to here are the ten
days of Dhul-Hijjah, and this opinion was also held by Ibn Abbas, Ibn
az-Zubair, Mujahid and others.
2. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:
"There are no deeds as excellent as those done in these ten days."
They (the companions listening) said, "Not even Jihad?" He, peace be
upon him, said, "No, not even Jihad except a man who goes forth
endangering his life and wealth and does not return with anything."

3. Allah says:
" … and remember the name of Allah in the appointed days." [Al-Qur'an 2:203]
Ibn Abbas and Ibn Kathir said this means in the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.
4. The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace, said:
"There are no other days that are as great as these in the sight of
Allah, the Most Sublime. Nor are there any deeds more beloved to Allah
then those that are done in these ten days. So increase in tahlil (to
say la illaha illallah), takbir (to say allahu akbar) and tahmid (to
say alhumdulillah)." [Reported by at-Tabarani in al-Mu'jum al-Kabir]
5. With regards to the noble companion Sa'id bin Jubair, when the days
of Dhul-Hijjah began he would strive to increase in good actions with
great intensity until he was unable to increase anymore. [Reported by
ad-Darimi]
6. Ibn Hajar says in Fath al-Bari:
"The most apparent reason for the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah being
distinguished in excellence is due to the assembly of the greatest
acts of worship in this period, i.e. salawat (prayers), siyam
(fasting), sadaqah (charity) and the Hajj (pilgrimage). In no other
periods do these great deeds combine."
What are the Recommended Acts in these Days?
1. Prayer – It is highly recommended to perform the obligatory acts at
their prescribed times (as early as possible) and to increase oneself
in the superogatory acts, for indeed, this is what brings a person
closer to their Lord. The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace,
said:
"Upon you is to increase in your prostration to Allah, for verily you
do not prostrate to Allah with even one prostration, except that He
raises you in degrees and decreases your sins because of it."

2. Fasting – This has been mentioned as one of the acts of
righteousness where Hanbada ibn Khalid reports on the authority of his
wife who reports that some of the wives of the Prophet, peace be upon
him, said, "The Prophet, upon whom be peace, would fast on the ninth
of Dhul-Hijjah, the day of Ashura and three days in every month."
[Recorded by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, an-Nisa'i and others]
Imam an-Nawawi said that fasting in these ten days is extremely recommended.
3. Saying allahu akbar, la illaha illallah and alhamdulillah – It is
found in the aforementioned narration of Ibn 'Umar:
"So increase yourselves in saying la illaha illallah, allahu akbar and
alhamdulillah."
Imam al-Bukhari, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
"Ibn 'Umar and Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with them both, used
to go out to the markets in the ten days saying the takbir causing the
people to follow them in this action."
He also said:
"'Umar ibn al-Khattab used to say the takbir in his mimbar in Mina,
whereupon the people of the mosque hearing 'Umar, would start to say
the takbir as would the people in the markets until the whole of Mina
was locked in glorifying Allah."
Ibn 'Umar used to say the takbir in Mina during these ten days and
after prayers, whilst on his bed, in his tent, in his gathering and
whilst walking. What is recommended is to say the takbir aloud due to
the fact that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, his son and Abu Hurayrah used to
do likewise, may Allah be pleased with them all.
Strive with us O Muslims in reviving this sunnah that has become lost
in these times and it was almost forgotten, even amongst the people of
righteousness and goodness all of which is unfortunately in opposition
to what the best of generations were upon (preserving and maintaining
the superogatory acts).
There are a number of ways of making takbir that have been narrated by
the companions and their followers and from these ways is the
following:
